Kate was desperate to confront the man who had stolen her life. She had been on the cusp of fame when she was tricked by Mark, a sweaty, overweight camera operator on a shoot nearly ten years ago, into swapping bodies with him. She had watched for years as he used her body to go on to model for some of the world’s biggest brands, but he had no idea she was going to come back and confront him.
Mark stood there looking stunning. He had looked stunning for the last ten years, so when he saw his old body charging towards him, he was, of course, stunned.
“That’s it!” said Kate, grabbing her former arm. “Swap us back now. You’ve had your fun, but it’s not fair. That’s my life you’ve been living, and I want it back.”
Mark played dumb.
“I’m sorry… do I know you?”
Kate found this response extremely upsetting.
“You know who I am. Don’t try acting like you don’t know who I am. Swap us back now!”
But Mark continued to look at his former body with a face full of confusion. He knew no one would believe Kate, so why even bother discussing it with her? He was never swapping back.
“Excuse me! Can you step back away from her? Where’s your pass?” said a large security guard who had seen the situation and decided to step in.
“I lost it,” said Kate unconvincingly.
The guard told her she had to leave, and she lost control.
The entire room went silent as she was dragged away, kicking and screaming.
“He stole my body… He stole my life… Please believe me…”
Kate’s cries became distant. Mark was relieved that she was gone. He had a fashion show to attend.
Mark broke away from the people asking if he was okay and headed to the toilets. He had been Kate for ten years, but he still automatically headed towards the gents’ toilets.
Realising his mistake, he headed into the women’s toilets instead. He put his purse down and looked into the mirror at his body.
This was his life. He had done so much to get himself this far, and there was no way Kate was ever getting her life back.
Two years later, Kate was defeated. Mark had won. He had stolen her life and used his privilege and power to stop Kate from ever getting close to him again.
She now sat alone in her small apartment, watching as Mark walked down the catwalk at a fashion show.
He had won, and there was nothing she could do but cry as she thought about the life that could have been hers.
