His Not So Normal Life

Ian looked deeply into the mirror. Sometimes, he still couldn’t quite believe the reflection he saw the eyes looking back at him.

He was doing his exercises, which were important now that he was in his forties. It was hard to believe he had been in his sister’s body for nearly twenty years. It had all gone so fast, yet he had done so much in that time  got married, had children.

He and his sister had come to terms with their very unique situation years ago, and Ian now considered this body to be his own. He had technically spent longer in his sister’s body than in his original one. Still, there were small moments when he wondered what life would have been like if they had never swapped bodies all those years ago.

The door opened and closed in the distance, and Ian’s husband came up behind him and wrapped his arms around him.

Finding himself in his sister’s body had led to one big change he was now into men. He had tried to deny those feelings for a long time, but they were too strong. It had been the same for his sister; she was now married to a woman. It seemed that sexual orientation stayed with the body.

His parents, who had unfortunately both passed away, had never known about the swap but they had loved having grandchildren.

Soon those grandchildren would be grown up and leaving home, and Ian would be entering a new stage of his life one he had never expected, but one that had still been full of love and laughter.

He joined his husband in the bedroom, and they lay on the bed watching TV, laughing together.

He had a normal life now… despite it being an unusual one.
