Youth

 

Gloria missed being young she missed the freedom which came with youth she loved the outdoors but now in her later 80s she was unable to even go into her own garden she was not really at depressive person but being a prisoner in her own home was starting to cause her some misery. 

Her granddaughter April was the only thing that cheered her up, her visits made her day but they were becoming less and less as April got older and she had not seen her for months but to her surprise one day April turned up with flowers and she apologised for not coming to see her for a while. 

April sat there talking about her recent break up when Gloria noticed her yawn it was a little late in the day so she asked April if she wanted to stay. April agreed and after a cup of coffee and a little super they went to bed. 

In the night Gloria dreamt of what it would be like to be young again like April but in her dream she and April had swapped bodies and she was able to enjoy being young again the dream was amazing and she never wanted it to end untill she was awoken by a scream. 

She awoke suddenly and a little dazed wondered why she was in the guest room she then noticed something she was not herself she was in April’s body was this still part of the dream as she got out of bed to investigate the screaming she went it to her room and saw her body in bed in shock, she backed away from the bed where her granddaughter lay panicking, she looked outside snow was beginning to fall and she knew what she was going to do as she picked up a blancket from the end of the bed and headed down stairs. 

She opened the door and breathed in the cold crisp air and felt snow fall onto her skin she felt alive again just sampling this simple thing a little freedom she wondered for a while but she was so cold now she refused to the house and warmed herself up she felt no pain in her joints and had to take a moment to enjoy April’s slender body but she could not ignore the screams from upstairs April was freaking out.  

She went back upstairs and opened the door she got into bed with April who asked questions about what was happening but all Gloria could do was thank her granddaughter and they fell back to sleep when she woke she was back in her body and April lay next to her, she felt so happy to have experienced those moments in Aprils body but knew that everyone had their time and she was happy to spend her last years with April.
